PETCO has and excellent opportunity for a Financial Analyst for Special Projects to perform both high level and in depth analyses for all PETCO departments and levels of management in making sound business decisions, both strategic and tactical in nature. Also, to manage business improvement initiatives such as process re-engineering, system enhancements, new business initiatives, and Information System package selection.
Essential Job Functions:
Develop and maintain key cross-functional relationships to assist in understanding issues and opportunities identified by business partners and support those areas in communicating recommendations to senior management.
Analyze data to determine appropriate course of action and present findings. Efficiently create complex documents and/or reports using spreadsheet and/or database software and analyze such data to determine the appropriate course of action.
Gather data, analyze information, develop conclusions, communicate recommendations clearly and work effectively with others on a team; effectively translate complex data and analyses to all levels within the organization.
Be a “business expert”, knowledgeable of current and future trends in the business, industry and information technology and systems, and be able to create innovative and efficient solutions to business problems.
Independently prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes and effectively accomplish assigned duties/tasks by coordinating work of subordinates.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Complete analyses in all aspects of PETCO's business to help management understand and answer critical business issues and questions. Support Operations, Advertising, Distribution and Human Resources with projects and needs as they arise.
Perform statistical analysis, analyze trends, and develop complex reports, tables, graphs and other supporting documentation.
Support business improvement opportunities, develop high-level solution, receive buy-in from affected departments and lead solution development and implementation project
Analyze and report on PETCO and retail trends for all parts of the business, including sales, cost of sales, merchandise shrink, distribution, advertising, store expenses, G&A, depreciation and interest expense
Assist in the preparation of financial analyses for prospective capital projects. This will include multi-year projections and ‘what-if' scenarios, (ROI, NPV analysis).
Participate in budget planning meetings and be prepared to support the assigned department in budgets and forecasts.
Develop new mathematical and statistical methods to analyze and understand business issues.
Complete special projects as assigned or required.
Minimum Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in finance or comparable field of study from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience. MBA preferred.
Experience Required and Other Requirements:
1-3 years relevant experience.
Preference for experience in multi-site distribution and/or transportation financial support experience.
Strong statistics experience or coursework - familiarity with statistical modeling, segmentation and linear regression. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access is required.
Good listening and strong attention to detail.
